Shun Divisive politics , Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta urges politicians

Nairobi – President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked politicians to focus on development instead of expending their energies on divisive politics.

Uhuru said leaders must avoid utterances that could plunge the country into turmoil.

“Kenyans do not need cheap politics. They need leaders who will serve and help them improve their lives. As a new generation of leaders, we must inspire Kenyans,” Uhuru said.

He spoke on Friday when he addressed hundreds of Eldoret residents who lined up the roads to give him a rousing reception on his way from the Recruits Training School where he presided over this year’s recruits passing-out parade.

Uhuru urged the youth to shun politicians out to divide them on tribal lines.

“Tribalism and negative ethnicity are outdated practices. Guard against those who want to use the tribal card to drag us back while we want to march forward as a progressive country,” Uhuru advised the youth.

He emphasized the need for all Kenyans to embrace national unity, saying the country stands a better chance of addressing the challenges facing it.

He affirmed the Jubilee Government’s commitment to transforming the lives of Kenyans.

On the war against illicit brews, Uhuru said the Government will not waver in its efforts to rid the country of the killer alcohol.

He said while looting and destruction of property will not be condoned, the crackdown on the illegal liquor will not stop
