Relief for Kenyans in the Diaspora applying for the New Generation Passports .

Kenyans living in the UK, Germany and Paris and( most of the other stations gradually ) can now apply for the passports from the respective Kenya Embassies in their cities. This comes after the Government of Kenya phased out the old generation passports.  Speaking to the Director of  Foreign Travel at Kenya Immigration, Mr Abraham Mwaura,  our reporter shared the frustrations of most Kenyans who had been unable to access these basic services from the Embassies with many having to travel to Nairobi to acquire the new passports. Mr Mwaura confirmed his department’s efforts in preparing the online infrastructure to facilitate the application of the new passports for the Kenyans.

Last Month, Mr Mwaura launched the e passport stations in Berlin and Paris. This has been a welcome development for thousands living abroad.

Further to public notices informing that the Kenya Government is now implementing a new e-Passport issuing system, applicants will be required to submit applications online on the e-Citizen platform https://www.ecitizen.go.keand present themselves to the nearest epassport processing centre for submission of the application and biometrics capture.

In this regard, the Government has designated Kenya High Commission, London, as one of the centres where epassport applications shall be processed. Nonetheless, the Mission has not yet commenced processing epassports. It is now envisaged that all the infrastructure required will be in place by 10th August, 2019 and that processing should begin by 15th August, 2019. A comprehensive list of requirements and application procedures will be announced on our website www.kenyahighcom.org.uk and other available media channels in due course

Please note that applications will be received at the Mission strictly on appointment basis. All applicants will be expected to select an appointment date and time as will be available at the time of submitting applications on the ecitizen portal.

All prospective applicants are advised to begin putting together all necessary requirements including an original National Identification Card (ID) which is one of the mandatory documents when submitting your application at any processing centre.
