Raila Amolo Odinga was on Tuesday sworn in as the People’s President at a Ceremony held at the Uhuru Park Grounds in Nairobi, Kenya.(writes topi lyambila).  On a day that had been labeled DoomsDay, but turned out calmer than usual as the security Forces stayed away from the people’s path to and from the ceremony.  The Government had earlier ordered the police back to strategic positions within the CBD and apparently advised not to interfere with the troopers heading to the swearing in ceremony.

Except for a slight skirmish at the end of the day when reportedly some NASA supporters were confronted by the so called ‘Nairobi Business Community’ all was calm.  This was another chance for some of us to taste the reverse tropical fresh air tainted by teargas, dropping a cloud on an otherwise sunny day.

The only hiccup of the day being the absence of the other NASA Principals at the ceremony  at Uhuru Park.  Deputy President-in-Waiting Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula all did not appear, with Raila telling the crowd that they were still part of the coalition and did not come due to unavoidable circumstances, but will be part of the agenda.
