Kenya Will Not Ban UK Travel, Awaits Directive from WHO

Kenya announced today that it will not follow other countries that have suspended flights from and into the  UK travel despite the new strain of the Coronavirus. According to a Business Daily report, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe says that the country will instead follow its strict travel measures with the United Kingdom, awaiting further recommendations from the World Health Organization.

“We have very strict travel measures with the UK which the US and Europeans did not have. We are carefully observing every passenger travelling from there,” says the Health CS.

Kagwe says the country will instead act on scientific advice from the World Health Organization (WHO) before taking any steps, like banning flights from the UK.

“We will therefore, make decisions based on scientific advice as well as any additional advce from WHO. We are not part of the European Union,” he further added.

So far, 5 African countries have banned UK travel, including Equatorial Guinea, Malawi, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia.

Globally, Netherlands was the first country to issue travel restrictions against the UK following news of the new coronavirus strain said to be up to 70% more transmissible than the original virus. The Independent reports that over 68 countries have banned UK travel, either temporarily or indefinitely.
