IAAF London 2017 – Wraps Up.

Kenya´s Hellen Obiri and Ethiopian Ayana ran the race of the Games; when they went neck to neck in the 5000m women´s final at the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Stadium in East London.

In the end it was the Kenyan who responded to the Stadium cheer to tear past Ayana after the bell with a blistering pace that left the Ethiopian World Champion tottering in her wake.   Soon after it was another Kenyan Elijah Matonei Manangoi who streaked past countryman Timothy Cheruiyot to win Kenya´s fifth and final gold.

Kenya finished in second place with 5 Gold, 2 silver and four bronze tallying 11 medals total to com second behind the USA who amassed 10 Gold 11 Silver and 9 Bronze totaling 30.

Traditional trailblazers Germany could only manage 10th place with 5 medals (1 Gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze).   Hosts Great Britain & Northern Ireland placed 6th with 2 Gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. Team GB will however remember the Championships specifically because of the Gold in the 4x100m relay men after winning a closely contested race to beat USA in the last stretch.
