Barclays Africa Forum features Kenya as central to Africa’s Success Story

A pitch for KenyaThe forth Annual  Africa forum by Barclays  took place last week at the bank’s headquarters in Canary Wharf. The annual Forum brings together the Bank’s corporate clients doing business in Africa .

The high level participation of diverse clients shows the interest that Africa is attracting as a region with burgeoning business opportunities.

This year’s forum had a special focus on Kenya whose case for attractiveness was presented by Hon Henry Rotich , Cabinet Secretary Treasury and supported by Hon Amb. Amina Mohamed , Cabinet Secretary Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

”We see Kenya as central to Africa’s Economic Growth Story ,and despite challenges both domestic and external,confidence indicators suggest a positive growth for the country” Hon Rotich reassured investors.

In his presentation, Hon Rotich reiterated his ministry’s efforts to support the economy, highlighted efforts towards reviving the volatile Kenya shilling and efforts to curb inflation. He spoke of Kenya’s transformation agenda which has seen the government make ambitious structural reforms supported by sound economic policies.  The Cabinet Secretary updated the delegates of efforts towards establishing the Nairobi International Financial centre which has been supported by the Qatar administration.

He invited UK Private sector to increase their investment in Kenya particularly in the infrastructure and energy sector.

In her address Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed confirmed Government’s commitment to ensuring security of investors, visitors and citizens of Kenya . citing insecurity as being a globe challenge that required regional, international co-operation.

”If not Kenya, where else?” Amb. Amina Mohamed closed by inviting UK businesses to invest in Kenya.

‘The World understands Africa better and Africa understands the World Better” Temisan Ofong, Barclays Bank Africa Closing remarks. He urged Africa investors to align their Africa strategy towards Africa Development and to avoid not just Profits.

Other Speakers included Barclays corporate Banking CEO Mr  John Winter, Mr Jeremy Awori – Barclays Kenya, Jeff Gable – Head of Research at Barclays Africa who presented an update on Africa’s Market outlook and the opportunities & Challenges.

The Africa Forum was a resounding success and Kenya was very well represented by its cabinet Ministers.
